Our Story
Safety Magnets was started in late 2005 in Chandler, Arizona. The idea came from my wife, Melissa, when she was watching Dr. Phil one day interviewing a woman who was always frightened that something bad was going to happen to her kids. Dr. Phil told her that she needed to know what to do in an emergency and that would give her better peace of mind.
At the time, we were also new parents and we were trying to do all the right things to prepare for any emergencies. (In fact, we had already had one incident in which our daughter was choking and we had to use the Heimlich maneuver to save her!) We took some first aid training, read lots of articles, and got lots of books and brochures. In the end though, we found that much of what we were collecting, ended up in the “junk drawer” – obviously, not the best place to go when looking for life-saving, emergency information.
But what about a putting concise, accurate, life-saving instruction right on a refrigerator magnet, she thought? And with that, the idea for Safety Magnets was born.
Melissa built the website and after getting some great designers, we had our first flagship product: Child and Infant CPR. I helped bring the business along, got our artwork and logo Trademarked, and pretty soon we had our first customers.
By 2006, we had sold about 10,000 Safety Magnets. Our earliest customers were members of the National Association for Ambulatory Care, essentially urgent care centers. And they loved the product! They began adding their logos and contact information and handing it out to their customers. Now we were not only serving parents and consumers but businesses as well! Soon the press found out about us and we appeared in a variety of magazine and TV shows. (Check out our interview that we gave to our local news)
Soon real estate and insurance agents, fire departments, schools, hospitals, governments were finding that Safety Magnets were not just a give-away for their employees and customers, but a true promotional product that was much better than the typical calendars and sport schedule magnets that were just being thrown away at the end of the year!
By 2011, Safety Magnets had hundreds of customers and great testimonials. Over 75,000 Safety Magnets have been sold and we continue to broaden our product line to serve all types of consumers, organizations, governments, and businesses with a wide variety of products all featuring a wide variety of safety and health messages and instruction.
